Kristy Hawkins

Age: 22
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 155 offseason; ~130 for competition (middleweight)

Contest history: I've competed in several local shows beginning at age 17. Last year, I began competing in the NPC and won the lightweight division at the Michigan Championships and placed 3rd at the Pittsburgh Open. In 2003, I won the middleweight division at the Ronnie Coleman Classic and the middleweight and overall at the Pittsburgh Open.

Future plans: Jr. Nationals

Education: I graduated from Texas A&M University in Dec 2002 with a B.S. in chemical engineering (suma cum laude and with honors). I am currently continuing my research at Texas A&M and taking graduate classes to allow me to focus on competing this year. In the fall, I will go to Caltech to pursue my PhD, also in chemical engineering. My research interests are in the area of directed evolution and protein engineering.

How I got into bodybuilding: I always struggled with my weight as an adolescent and naturally gravitated towards weight training when I was able to drive and pay for a gym membership at age 16. The owners saw my progress and dedication and convinced me to enter a competition they were hosting. They taught me all the basics of nutrition and contest prep and I was hooked. I continued competing at least once a year through college just as a hobby, but this past year, I have really taken it to the next level.

Precontest diet/training: I start preparing for a contest about 20 weeks out, increasing my training and cardio and watching my diet (although I'm still very strict in the offseason). This year, I have been lifting twice a day (training everything twice a week) and doing 2 hours of cardio except on leg days. My diet is high protein (2.5g/lb bodyweight), moderate fat, and zero carbs.

Kristy Hawkins (born August 28, 1980 in Longview, Texas) is an IFBB professional female bodybuilder from the United States.

Hawkins earned her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2002, graduating summa cum laude and with University and Foundation Honors. She read for her M.S. in Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 2005. She is currently working towards a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, also at Caltech.

Hawkins is currently studying chemical engineering in the area of metabolic engineering in yeast with an emphasis on inducible promoter systems and other strategies for fine-tuning expression of recombinant enzymes / proteins. She is primarily working to produce benzylisoquinoline alkaloids in S. cerevisiae, but has also constructed yeast strains which exhibit modified responses from the GAL promoter and is pursuing other RNA-based strategies for regulation by small molecules in vivo.

Kristy enjoys reading (during cardio), cross-stitching, and hiking.

Jodie Minear

Hi my name is Jodie Minear, Im a IFBB pro figure competitor, skin care consultant, occasional personal trainer, and fitness model. I was born in a small town in Texas in 1982 and I was involved in many activities but my real passion was not found until I began working out. I would go to the gym and lift while all my friends were out having fun. I always wanted to be the best and I was obsessed with muscle and the idea of being able to build my body. Losing my best friend after college helped me see that life is short and everyday is a gift. In 2008 I completed in my first NPC show winning first in my class and overall in the figure division. Later that year I placed 4th in nationals. In 2009 after taking some time to change some things up I decided to do jr nationals and earned my pro card by winning first in my class. Just recently I completed in my first pro show in Phoenix and earned a 5th place medal. I have worked for many amazing companies and plan on going as far as I can in this industry. I love being in front of the camera and sharing my life with people, and hoping to inspire like so many have done for me. One day I hope to stand on the Olympia stage holding a trophy in my hand.

Oksana Grishina

I am from Kaliningrad, Russia. As a child, my family moved often because my father was an officer in the military. When my father was put on assignment in Riga, Latvia, my mother decided she wanted to put me in gymnastics as a way to direct my energy. She took me to a gymnastics school in Riga. The Art Gymnastics class was not in session, but my mother liked the beauty of the Rhythmic Gymnastics class she saw at the school. At age 7 I was a late starter for gymnastics, but the coach saw potential in me and I was accepted into the rhythmic gymnastics class. After a few months of training, I placed 3rd in my first competition.

After three years, my father was reassigned to a new post in Russia. This job came with a guarantee of government housing, which meant that, finally, we would be in a settled place. Sadly, there was no gymnastics school in this city. My coach in Riga offered me the chance to stay there and continue my training. My parents asked me what I wanted to do, thinking that I surely wanted to move with them. But I was willing to stay in Riga and continue with my gymnastics. They were surprised, but understood my desire and passion for gymnastics. My father switched assignments with another officer so that we could move to Kaliningrad, Russia, a city that did have a gymnastics school. This was a huge sacrifice for my family, because the government would not provide housing for us. I was able to pursue my gymnastics in Kaliningrad, but we changed apartments often and I moved from school to school. I spent countless hours commuting back and forth on foot and by bus between home, school and gymnastics, and I rarely saw my parents.

Fitness was my life. I went to University in Kaliningrad and in 2000 earned a degree as a specialist in Physical Training and Sports. During my university years and for several years later, I organized my own ballet, “Antares”. I also worked as a choreographer with children at the Tchaikovsky School of Music and Art in Kaliningrad.

Sherry Jensen

I am a mother of four and a lifetime natural IFBB Pro fitness athlete, born in Victoria, BC. I lived in Richmond, BC up until 1982 and then I moved to Pender Harbour, BC (Sunshine Coast) This is where I was first introduced to aerobics classes. At the age of 15, I would attend a fitness class once a week at the local community hall which was put on by my very first mentor, Mokie Barabash-Burnham. I really looked up to her because she was fit, positive and a mother in great shape. She became very inspirational to me, so after graduating from Pender Harbour Secondary in 1986, I moved to the Lower Mainland and joined a local gym Fitness World, which is where I am now employed and sponsored. I continued to participate as a member while I completed my degree in Cosmetology. In 1994, just two years after I became a CIABC certified cosmetologist, I studied and practiced to become a BCRPA certified aerobics and weight training instructor. In 2004, I then added to my list of certifications by becoming a BCRPA Certified Personal Trainer for Steve Nash Fitness World. My most recent accomplishment is becoming a Dotfit coach.

I am currently in the process of writing a book about my entire life called "Start Today, Tomorrow Never Comes". This book is going to be dedicated to my children and the people who believed in me. However, don't hold your breath for the book to be released anytime soon, as I have had a very interesting life thus far and there is so much more to add to it. I can assure you that it will inspire and motivate anyone that reads it and that it will be worth the wait!

Before I continue I want to get my alias' out of the way. I started out as Sherry Mauch, then adopted as Sherry Stephens, married into Campbell, Boudreau and now and forever to stay as Sherry Ann Jensen. Again, it will all be in the book. Stay tuned.

Ok now that it's out of the way, I decided to start competing after my second child and after each category I experienced, my fitness friends would introduce me to another. I love the challenge and work involved in maintaining a healthy, fit and positive lifestyle.

It was in 2002, when I was inspired to compete by my friend, now IFBB Fitness Pro, Sandra Wickham. I joined Sandra's dance team, Lean Motion which was the opening entertainment for local bodybuilding and fitness shows. I really enjoyed the fitness aspect of it and the adrenaline rush that over came me at each performance so I decided to compete. I began my training by hiring trainer and Figure Diva, Lara Tamereski. I also became close to another fitness and figure competitor named Sandy Vu. Both Sandy and Lara were excellent motivaters who clearly knew their stuff , as it lead me to a WNBF Pro card in both fitness and figure. After gaining my Pro status and competing at the 2002 Ms Exercise World in New York City, I walked away with 1st place in both fitness and figure and I was hooked. This is what lead me to the meeting of a very popular WNBF Pro bodybuilder, Dave Goodin aka Texas Shredder. He invited me down to down to Austin, Texas to train and shadow him while he trained others. Dave Goodin and I have become great friends and he is now one of my biggest mentors in this industry. He has won many titles and is also the promoter of the INBF Texas Shredder Classic. Dave educated me well and when I returned back to Canada in

In July 2003, I was able to share my experience and knowledge with Fitness World members and staff and move up to the next level of my career, BCRPA certified personal trainer.

In 2005, after competing at the NPC Emerald Cup, I learned of another awesome trainer, Mike Davies. After seeing and admiring his very conditioned clients, I knew I had to contact him and see if he could take me on as well. Fortunately he was able to take me as a new client, and I had the opportunity of attending my first camp in March 2006 in Columbus, Ohio. I was to see what great shape his clients were in, not to mention how absolutely friendly everyone was. My butt kicked into gear and I am being taught how to "Train like a girl" as Mike would say, and to make healthy choices to attain a fit and balanced physique, on and off season.

Zhanna Rotar

Zhanna was born on August 2, 1980 in a small city by the name of Chernivtsi in Ukraine. As a child, she was a straight-A student and very dedicated to her school work, but Zhanna was also an extremely active child. She needed a physical outlet, even at an early age, so she involved herself in every activity available to her. From the age of 2 until I was 7, Zhanna was heavily involved in gymnastics.

When she was 7, Zhanna attended a music school to learn to play the piano. Then, by the age of 8, she was also enrolled in dance school.

When Zhanna was 11, she focused her energy on dance school and her studies. In the morning, she would go to school, then at 3 p.m., she would run to dance practice, which often lasted well over 4 hours every day. Zhanna believe's that dance school is where she developed her strong will and tremendous work ethic.

At 16, Zhanna immigrated to the U.S. with her family and attended Inglemoore High School in Seattle, WA. While there, she enrolled in the Running Start Program, skipped her senior year, and went directly to college. She attended Shoreline Community College for three years and received her AA degree. However, all throughout her academic years, she continued to need a physical outlet, so she joined her first gym. At first, Zhanna was taking various classes, but eventually, she began to lift weights. For Zhanna, weight lifting was something she felt she was meant to do. It seemed so natural to her; it also gave her the physical outlet she constantly needed.

At 20, Zhanna was accepted to the University of Washington majoring in Political Science. As she continued with her schooling, though, she still continued to devote a lot of time to her goal of being a fitness competitor.

Initially, Zhanna wanted to compete in Fitness, but while she was training with that goal in mind, the Figure division was established, and feeling that was a better fit for her, Zhanna decided to change her focus toward the Figure Division.

In 2005, Zhanna turned pro at the Team Universe and she's looking forward to having a very successful career as an IFBB figure athlete.

Zhanna's goal for 2006 is to qualify for the Olympia competition and to one day become Miss Figure Olympia... and to leave her mark on this wonderful sport.
